The Last Rainforest

From time to time I get a little nostalgic and this isn't really a secret. In the past, I have been known to ramble on about things from my childhood or just a few months past that seemed like a lifetime ago. However, there has been something on my brain lately that I can't quite let go of. 

FernGully. 

This movie changed my life when I was younger. Not only was I fascinated by the fairies and terrified by the black smog, but it really changed and enhanced the way I felt about the environment. I watched this movie so many times and let my imagination carry over into reality. I spent a lot of time outside wandering about, but this movie was another cog to the machine that drove my love for my surroundings and the world at large. 

So before I keep droning on about sweet times of my youth I want to take a moment to apply this to real life. Think about the environment today and the state that we're in. This movie can really shed a light on what we deal with today. Destruction, absentmindedness, and lack of care never turns out well when humans interact with mother nature.

I invite you to watch it and let me know what you think. I'd be interested to see if anyone else remembers this movie or is inspired yet again today through watching it.

People Are Obsessed with These

Over the past couple of years people have been increasingly obsessed with succulents. I can remember a long time ago when one of my best friends came to me to tell me that she was in love with these little guys. Quite frankly, I didn't get it. They just seemed like small plants to me that didn't need much care...

Then the lightbulb went off. An air plant or a succulent that doesn't need much care. Doesn't. Need. Much. Care. Unless you are super particular or get a certain kind you can basically let these plants chill out. Today, with the craze of minimalism reaching new highs as well, these plants are really getting some light shed on them. I wish I could say that I only know millennials that are raving about them, but the fact of the matter is that the older generation has come to liking them as well (probably long before the millennials anyway). 

There are even stores where they have specific people working there just to make sure you get the arrangement of new greens just right. Whether you want them in a hanging globe or on your nightstand there's surely something for you. Just out of curiosity - how many of you find yourself falling for these little nature pets?

Let's face it, they are kind of cute.

Earth Pigments →

Here's an interesting twist on pigments. A special person in my life passed on this article to me and I was very intrigued. Can you think back to a time where you were working on a project or some sort of a hobby and you didn't need to buy certain supplies because you already had them? Well this might sound familiar to you - but on a whole different level. 

As an artist I'm constantly inspired by other artists. There's a lot of "Why didn't I think of that?" and "I can totally relate", amongst other expressions. Creative people are so incredible to me. I love seeing what other techniques and practices people take up in their personal lives, but also how they turn those things it into a profession - if they see fit. Plus, who doesn't love when science and art meet?
